Antimicrobial activity of Lannea coromandelica bark extracts against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Background: In healthcare facilities, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has long been a common pathogen. Indiscriminate and incomplete uses of antibiotics are creating MRSA more alarming day by day.This study aims to determine the antimicrobial activity Lannea coromandelica (Jhika or Indian ash tree) bark extract against MRSA.
 Methods: This experimental was carried out in Department Microbiology Pharmacology, Bangladesh University Health Sciences, from January July, 2021. this study, prepared macerating dried powder Jhika tree. Then immersed methanol, ethanol, water for 48-72 hours, followed solvent filtering evaporation. were identified biochemical test then Kibry-Bauer disc diffusion method employed isolates using commonly used antibiotics.Then antibacterial extracts monitored. The microdilution assess minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) bactericidal (MBC) extracts. Finally, phytochemical screening only methanolic extract.
 Results: All completely resistant cefoxitin, oxacillin, gentamicin tetracycline. Methanol, ethanol aqueous produce maximum zones inhibition 14 mm, 13 12 respectively, with MIC MBC values ranging 3.125 mg/ml 12.5 MRSA. Phytochemical determined presence tannin, saponin, flavonoid, phenol which may be cause highest zone Conclusion: It can concluded that exhibited vitro detailed pharmacological should exploration effective natural drugs.
